Susperia to Enter a Battle of the Bands of Sorts

Photobucket

This is a pretty cool little tidbit of news. Apparently Susperia is entering into the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Now for those unfamiliar, this is a contest held in Finland every year that pits singers and bands against each other and the fans vote for the best song. Famously Lordi of all groups won this thing I think in 2006.

For this endeavor the guys in Susperia are also bringing along Mustis, formerly of Dimmu Borgir, to play the keys.
I wish them luck because anything to get this excellent thrash band from Norway some exposure is a good thing. They've been around for a long time and have good friends in the community but never have been able to breakthrough like they should. You can read the full article here.

Support Susperia

One band I forgot to mention in my last Rogues Gallery is a band out of Norway called Susperia. They were formed in 1998 by former Dimmu drummer Kenneth Akelson and Cyrus. Now some sites including Wikipedia are dubbing them black/thrash metal band. The black part might have been true early though their sound wasn't a whole lot like traditional black. I've heard the last 4 albums and it's just solid thrash metal in the vein of Testament to me.

Anyways, these guys have been around for over 10 years and put out some kick ass music.Yet nobody seems to have heard of them. Recently Athera the lead vocalist had to go in for emergency heart bypass surgery. I guess he's made a full recovery and they're back out on tour. Check out some vids and see for yourself if they're worthy to get some more exposure.

This off the 2002 album Vindication. Creepy stuff in between band shots.

This is off the 2004 album Unlimited. Heavy Chuck Billy influence on vocals.

Apparently they didn't have any money to make videos for recent albums since I can't find any. Well here is the single for the latest album Attitude.

So yeah a pretty solid band in my opinion. Funny how if you're a band from Norway and not a true black metal band it's difficult to get any marketing. Communic goes through the same thing. Both of these bands would be right at home here in the States and probably have a decent following. Oh well, I'm trying to do my part to get the word out.
