Tarja Turunen doing a 180 from Nightwish

I *JUST* watched Tarja's newest single, and upcoming track from her new CD What Lies Beneath, called "I Feel Immortal". Wow.

I enjoyed her first solo CD, My Winter Storm, but it wasn't great and it sounded really Nightwishy. This song shows me that she's finally starting to discover who she is as an artist, showing a softer pop side with the operatic vocals we all love. Rob and I have had disagreements in the past about Nightwish, he's Team Tarja and I like them both (Team Switzerland).

Either way, here's the first video, I absolutely love it. I'm not sure it will be well received in the metal community but as far as I'm concerned, it's beeee-utifal.

Watch the video and make your own opinion.

As a palate cleanser post something about Cthonic:P

Personally I found this song extremely boring. I'll have to wait and see what the rest of the album brings. I do know it will have a dreaded cover on it though.

I just checked out Amazon.com and it's due out at the end of the month. On a side note, on disc 2 it says "In The Still of the Night" so I guess we can expect another horrid 80's rock cover.

I could never get into this "operatic female metal/rock," style of bands like Nightwish, although Tarja does have a good voice.

It seems like, in my tastes, I almost prefer bands fronted by female vocalists that have more intense metal vocals, such as The Agonist or Arch Enemy. Kind of weird.

I guess Symphony X and Blind Guardian are about as close to operatic metal as I get.

I don't like all of the symphonic goth metal bands out there but there are a few I think are pretty good.

I like the full sound of choirs and orchestration behind power chords. It adds a whole new element to the music.
