TESSERACT

Tesseract is a band that invokes powerful, atmoshperic images, floating in space until the gravity of double-bass pulls you back to earth. They are a modern day Dream Theater (Images and Words, Awake era) in terms of song writing, perhaps without the virtousity of Petrucci, but with guitar work none the less compelling. Meshuggah (Destory, Erase, Improve era) also comes to mind when listening to Tesseract's first EP "Concealing Fate", particularly the now (in)famous djent chords, but at TOOL tempo. The defining moment on "Concealing Fate" is the combination of parts 2 "Deception" and 3 "The Impossible". These two tracks represent the band in all its glory, from slow tempo experimental clean sounds to machine gun drumming, from high speed chugging guitars ala Megadeth to slow chugging math metal djent of Meshuggah. Symphonic dissonance is also prevalent in the interplay between vocals, guitars, bass and drums. The band's musicianship is amazing without being pretentious. Daniel Tompkins' vocals are filled with soul and spot on. The rythmn section of Jamie Postones on drums and Amos Williams on bass are beyond solid, their minds must be programmed by some evil force, or aliens. The combination of Acle Kahney's and James Monteith's two guitars working in tandem, producing symbiotic melodies and textures creates spine-tingling euphoria. An entirely original sound capable of world domination. I'm looking forward to the full-length debut "One" on March 22, 2011 and ensuing tour dates which you find after the jump.
